BIOGRAPHY 

Nohelia Sosa is a Honduran singer, songwriter, actress, and multidisciplinary artist. She loves writing songs, plays ukulele and guitar, and also practices fine-art photography and painting.

Born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Nohelia was surrounded by music from an early age. Her parents, Isaac Sosa and Consuelo Guerrero, were always lovers of good music; her father plays the accordion, while her mother, an elementary school teacher, brought tremendous creativity to civic events and school activities. It was at Dr. Ramón Rosa #2 School that Nohelia began discovering many of her artistic interests, participating in drawing and other forms of creative expression.

During her teenage years, she trained as a model for different fashion houses, working in runway and photography through New Faces Models. Later, while attending Instituto José Cecilio del Valle, she continued exploring her artistic versatility through beauty and talent competitions, theater, artistic dance, and modeling.

One of the defining moments of her early artistic life came through the Señorita Juventud pageant in Tegucigalpa. In addition to modeling and personality, contestants were required to present a talent. Nohelia chose to sing, accompanied by a friend on guitar. Her performance of Gloria Estefan’s “Con los años que me quedan” earned her first place in the talent competition as well as the overall pageant title. From that moment on, she began paying closer attention to her voice and to the interpretive ability that would eventually help shape the direction of her life.

Although her artistic calling was becoming increasingly clear, Nohelia chose to complete her university education and earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Without abandoning her desire to sing and compose, she began pursuing television competitions and other opportunities where her voice could be heard after graduating.

After participating in local competitions in Honduras, Nohelia began seeking opportunities outside her country. She was selected for projects such as “La Voz Gigante” and Telemundo’s “Tengo Talento,” although at the time she was unable to participate because she did not have a U.S. work visa.

Determined to continue pursuing her calling, she moved alone to Miami, Florida. There she continued looking for opportunities until she auditioned for the first international edition of “La Academia USA,” produced by Azteca América. After auditions involving thousands of hopefuls, she advanced to a second stage in Dallas and was eventually selected from approximately 23,000 applicants to join the group that would travel to Mexico to compete.

The experience transformed her life. After months of preparation, work, and competition, Nohelia reached the finale and, in March 2006, finished in third place while representing Honduras. Her participation allowed her to connect with Latin audiences from many different countries across the United States and expand her international visibility.

After “La Academia USA,” she received a one-year contract with Azteca and was recognized as a Cultural Ambassador during the administration of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya Rosales. She participated in media tours throughout Mexico, Honduras, and the United States and performed in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., Mexico City, Miami, and Atlanta. She also participated in concert openings for artists such as Alejandro Fernández, Olga Tañón, Los Tigres del Norte, and Álvaro Torres, and shared the stage with Venezuelan songwriter Carlos Corsi.

Her career also included appearances at events such as Catrachilandia, Teletón 2010 and 2011, Latinos Unidos in Miami, and AGAFAM, as well as performances of the Honduran National Anthem for different embassies in the United States and interviews with radio and television media in the United States, Mexico, and Honduras.

Following her time with Azteca, Nohelia began developing her work as a songwriter more deeply. Together with Colombian artist and songwriter Erick Monterosa, she spent approximately two years working on the songs that would become part of her first album, “Deseo Inexplicable,” recorded and produced in Miami by Colombian pianist and producer Milton Salcedo.

In 2011 she released the single “La Dueña,” marking an important step in her work as a songwriter and arranger alongside Erick Monterosa. That same year, “Deseo Inexplicable” was released digitally.

Also in 2011, Nohelia was invited by Televicentro in Honduras to participate in “Bailando por un Sueño.” Although dance had not been her primary discipline, she reached the finale and finished in third place, adding another artistic experience before returning to the United States to continue promoting her music.

In 2013 she moved to Colorado and later to New Mexico, beginning a new period of artistic exploration focused on acting. She studied with actor Morse Bicknell at The Sol Acting Academy in Albuquerque and began participating in short films such as “Adelaides” and “Padre Lucius,” while also contributing to the direction of both projects. She was also the lead actress in the documentary “No Nos Moverán,” by Sangre Producciones.

In 2017 she had the opportunity to work as a Honduran slang coach on the production “Icebox,” which was later released by HBO. The experience allowed her to work within a large-scale film production and continue developing her career both in front of and behind the camera. She later joined The O’Agency under the representation of Lynette O’Connor.

After a period of exploration in acting, Nohelia returned strongly to music. In 2018 she decided to build a project that would allow her to discover a more organic and personal sound. This led to the creation of “Nohe & Sus Santos,” a musical project conceived around intimate instrumentation and a distinct artistic identity.

The project initially brought together musicians from New Mexico and began taking shape in November 2018 with support from the group Nosotros and FW Studios. Nohe & Sus Santos performed at festivals and venues across the United States, including events in Albuquerque, Wisconsin, and Gunnison, Colorado, as well as New Mexico venues such as Meow Wolf Santa Fe, El Farol, Launchpad, and Tumbleroot, with additional performances in Angel Fire, Española, Roswell, and Albuquerque.

In 2019, while continuing to develop the music project, Nohelia received a film opportunity in the feature “Half Brothers,” alongside actor Luis Gerardo Méndez and under the direction of Luke Greenfield. The experience represented another important step in her growth as an actress.

In 2020, Nohe & Sus Santos completed the album “Tempestad.” Part of the project’s music was also connected to the Honduran film “¿Dónde está la Cigüeña?”, directed by Abraham Espinosa, including the song “Cumbia Triste.”

In the years that followed, Nohelia continued developing a multidisciplinary career from New Mexico, bringing together music, acting, photography, painting, and visual storytelling. Her artistic identity has been shaped by two essential geographies: Honduras, where her roots, childhood, and much of her emotional memory live; and New Mexico, which has become her creative home in the United States.

In 2026, that connection takes on a new dimension with “Cada Vez Que Te Miro,” a single conceived as a love letter to Honduras and to one’s roots. The song grows from memory, distance, and the experience of reconnecting with the place one comes from, while extending its message to those who live far from their homeland and continue carrying with them the memories, people, and places that shaped their identity.

Filmed in Honduras, the visual world of “Cada Vez Que Te Miro” reconnects Nohelia with Tegucigalpa, Barrio Morazán, her childhood, her community, and different expressions of Honduran culture. The project represents not only a musical release, but also a symbolic return home.

At the same time, Nohelia is developing “De Telenovela,” a conceptual project that combines original songs with cinematic storytelling and her experience as a singer, songwriter, and actress. This new chapter brings together many of the artistic disciplines that have accompanied her throughout her life, creating a world in which music, characters, imagery, and storytelling become part of one creative universe.

Currently based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Nohelia Sosa continues building a career that crosses borders, genres, and disciplines. Her story is that of an artist who has continued to evolve without losing her connection to where she comes from: a Honduran voice continually finding new ways to tell stories through music, acting, and the visual arts.
